Official of Pakistan’s Customs Sentenced to Serious Penalties for Corruption
August 4, 2023FBR Headquarters Staff to Present on August’s Fifth and Sixth Weekly Holidays
On August 4, 2023, Islamabad Tax officers assigned to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) headquarters have been given the unprecedented order to report to work on the upcoming weekly holidays of August 5th and 6th, 2023.
The publication of a circular mandating the opening of the FBR Headquarters on both Saturday, August 5, and Sunday, August 6, 2023 has been formally confirmed by the FBR authorities. The circular states that regular office hours will be followed throughout these two working days. Furthermore, it has been mandated for all Members and Director Generals to guarantee the attendance of their respective officers and officials, as deemed required.
Insider sources have revealed that the decision to open the FBR Headquarters on the weekly holidays was made in response to an urgent need to resolve certain FBR-related issues before the current government’s term ends, even though the official notification does not state this explicitly.
The current government’s tenure is slated to expire the following week, therefore the finance ministry is determined to resolve any outstanding issues involving the FBR before leaving the Assembly. They hope to make it easier to finish unfinished business and ensure a smooth transition for the future administration by using the weekends as working days.
