Sales tax increase by 25% on above 500$ worth mobile phones

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has slapped 25 per cent sales tax on import of mobile phones valuing above $500 per piece, official sources said on Tuesday.

Pakistan has recently increased the normal sales tax rate from 17 per cent to 18 per cent in order to generate additional revenue to bridge fiscal gap. However, another sales tax rate of 25 per cent has been introduced, which shall apply on supply or import of luxury items, including mobile phones.
